CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Centre for Family Research of Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń, Poland invites researchers, practitioners, and administrators to the 2nd International Scientific Conference of Research on Family Services. Participants from diverse disciplines related to child and family care and welfare are invited to submit abstracts in English. These abstracts will undergo a review process after which selected candidates will be offered a place to present their paper during the conference.

AIM OF THE CONFERENCE

The Centre for Family Research of Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń hopes to gather a diverse collection of researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders in the area of child and family welfare to discuss issues pertaining to improved service delivery. Organizers hope disciplines such as social work, psychology, governance and policy-making, and information technology will be represented. Similar to the previous conference, organizers hope to have researchers and practitioners from all around the world.

THEMES OF THE CONFERENCE

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
•    theoretical and practical context of family support services in local settings
•    social work with families
•    cooperation in delivering child and family services
•    social innovation and modern technology as a tool to improve family services
•    implementation and evaluation of family services
•    methodological approaches to research (social work, social welfare, social care)
•    legal, health, cultural, educational, or similar contexts to child and family support services

An abstract of maximum length of 250 words is required to register for the conference. This should be sent as an attachment via email to family [dot] confat[2][1]umk [dot] pl.  Please use the form available on the conference website.

Fees and conference costs

Participation in this conference is FREE OF CHARGE. Organizers will provide all participants free accommodation and meals, as well as conference materials for the three-day conference. This is supported with funds from the research project, “Cooperation–effective and efficient”, implemented under the Operational Programme, Knowledge, Education, Development 2014 - 2020 which is financed by the European Social Fund.

Important dates

Monday, 19th April, 2021: Deadline for initial expression of interest to attend the in-person conference.
Friday, 21st May, 2021: A definite confirmation of the status of the conference will be made. A decision will be made on whether the conference will finally be held on the stated dates or not.
*Monday, 24th May, 2021: Deadline to confirm participation and submit abstract
*Wednesday, 26th May, 2021: Final selection of participants/ official invitation letters sent out
*Sunday, 20th June, 2021: arrival of participants
*Monday, 21st June, 2021: commencement of conference
*Wednesday, 23rd June, 2021: final day of conference

Possibility for virtual conference?
There will not be any virtual or hybrid form of the conference. All efforts are being made to host participants in person if the global health situation permits it.
Covid 19 precautions

Organizers have taken all necessary precautions to ensure conference areas and hotel accommodations are all safe to limit the possible spread of COVID 19. Disinfectants will be readily available all around the conference venues and hotel rooms.

Venue

The City: 

Toruń is a vibrant city located in Northern Poland on the Vistula River. The city is famous for its Gothic Architecture. The Gothic style is a very distinctive feature of the city which explains why the city adopted its promoting slogan: Toruń – get gothic. Toruń is listed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The city is a the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus. The fame of Copernicus is related to the heliocentric theory, which assured him a place among the most noticeable scientists in history. The most recognizable product of the city is the Toruń gingerbread. There is a longstanding  tradition of the baking of these cookies in the town. No visitor to the city should leave Toruń without tasting or buying gingerbread.

 

The University:

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU) was founded in 1945. It is one of the largest universities in Poland, currently comprising of 17 faculties (including 3 medical faculties at Collegium Medicum UMK in Bydgoszcz). It provides graduate and postgraduate courses for almost 25 000 students, offering education in over 100 fields of study and 65 postgraduate courses. The university employs 4039 staff on both Toruń and Bydgoszcz campuses, over half of whom are academic teachers. NCU alumni now number around 200 000. This has contributed to the Nicolaus Copernicus University’s position as one of the five best universities in Poland and it is also the reason why QS World University Ranking has placed NCU in the top 4% of universities in the world.
